General Session on
Movement in Minimalism
2010 Seoul International Conference on Generative Grammar will be held at Konkuk University, Seoul, Korea, on August 17 – 20, organized by the Korean Generative Grammar Circle.
While we especially encourage submissions touching on the theme of the general session specified above, equal consideration will be given to papers from all areas of generative grammar, which may include syntactic theory, syntax-semantics interface, syntax-morphology interface, syntax-phonology interface, syntactic acquisition, and others. The conference will consist of the general session, an additional workshop, and a series of lectures from the keynote speaker. The theme of the additional workshop is as follows:
Workshop on
Multiple Dominance and Reconstruction
In recent literature, the system of multiple dominance has been argued to provide an appropriate means for analyzing a number of constructions including right node raising, ATB movement, etc. with broad implications for more general issues having to do with the processes of structure building, movement, linearization, and so on. (Wilder 1999, 2001, Citko 2005, Gracanin-Yuksek 2007, among others). Closely related to the system of multiple dominance is the notion of reconstruction, which independently has played a central role in virtually all areas of syntax in the past two decades—that is, (c)overt movement, interpretation, and pronunciation (Fox 1999, Boskovic 2001, Nunes 2005, among others). These two systems (along with their alternatives) open up many new paths to understanding the nature of the grammar of human language. In this workshop, we invite papers that focus on any issues that involve multiple dominance and/or reconstruction as well as their alternatives.
Abstracts should be submitted using the EasyAbs service of Linguist List. All you need to do is visit: http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/SICOGG12 and click on Abstract Submission. Then follow the online guidelines to upload your abstract. This can either be in .pdf or .doc format. Note that the latter is only acceptable if the abstract contains no special fonts. Only electronic submissions through the link above will be considered. Abstracts should be anonymous and may not exceed 2 pages (A4), including examples and references (embed examples within the text), with 2.54 cm (1 inch) margin on all four sides and should employ the font Times New Roman 12 pt. Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint abstract per author. Abstracts should be sent no later than April 10, 2010.
Authors will be notified by May 15, 2010. Each speaker of the general and the workshop sessions will be allotted 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for discussion. Accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings of 2010 Seoul International conference on Generative Grammar, which will be distributed to the conference participants. All presenters will be asked to provide camera-ready copies of their papers in publishable form by July 25, 2010. The text should be single-spaced and the general page limit is 20 pages including appendices and references.
